Lupang Hinirang (The Philippine National Anthem)*

Posted by: Jonathan Tabianan | July 15, 2007 |

I know a lot of Filipinos don’t really know the exact lyrics of our National Anthem, so I decided to put it here so when you have a chance to browse in the internet, you might accidentally my blog. I trust this lyric is accurate because I took it from a very reliable source. I hope it will enlighten some of us, Filipinos, at least. Here it goes…

Bayang magiliw,

Perlas ng silanganan,

Alab ng puso,

sa dibdib mo’y buhay,

Lupang hinirang,

duyan ka ng magiting

Sa manlulupig, di ka pasisiil

Sa dagat at bundok, sa simoy

at sa langit mong bughaw,

May dilag ang tula at awit mo’y

paglayang minamahal

Ang kislap ng watawat mo’y

tagumpay na nagniningning,

Ang bituin at araw niya’y kailan

pa ma’y di magdidilim.

Lupa ng araw ng luwalhati’t

pagsinta

Buhay ay langit sa piling mo.

Aming ligaya na pag may

mang-aapi

Ang mamatay nang dahil sa iyo.
Composed by Julian Felipe upon the request of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo for the declaration of independence on June 12, 1898 at Cavite el Viejo (Kawit). The anthem would be played together with the hoisting of the Philippine National Flag, made in Hong Kong by Mrs. Marcele Agoncillo, assisted by Lorenza Agoncillo and Delfina Herboza. The original title of Lupang Hinirang was Marcha Filipina Magdalo and later changed by Julian to Marcha Nacional Filipina. The band the played the anthem wa the San Francisco de Malabon band.**
