What Would Jose Rizal Say?

Posted by: Jonathan Tabianan | October 25, 2007 | No Comment |

We consider him, Andres Bonifacio, as our National Hero but if we will examine the truth 100 years ago, I think we will discover something that will make us feel disgusted and sickened in our stomach as well as hatred to people responsible for his death. Let me ask you something, “Do you know how Andres died?” You will probably say, “He died during the revolution defending our country’s leberty.” Then I would say yes, you’re right but the big question is, “How he really died?”

“The government” executed him on may 10, 1897. They, he and his brotherProcopio where found guilty of treason and sedition in spite of the fact that the evidence was not sufficient enough to prove their guilt.* At that time,  Emilio Aguinaldo has already been elected President of the Republic of the Philippines which was proclaimed on March 22, 1897. Actually, on that election, Bonifacio was elected as Director of the Interior but Daniel Tirona stood up and said: “The position of Direction of the Interior is an exalted one and it is not proper that a person without a lawyer’s diploma should accupy it. We in our provice a lawyer, Jose del Rosario!” Of course if I was in Andres’ shoes during that exact moment I would feel deeply insulted. No needto explain why. Daniel Tirona, instead of apologizing, disappeared from the scene.

Bonifacio, as the chairman of the assembly and as the President of the Supreme Council of the KKK declared the assembly dissolved and all that has been approved and resolved null.

Oathtaking was done with all the elected officers present except Bonifacio for he and his men felt that there were anomalies during the election and the election was invalid. Aguinaldo sent a delegation to Bonifacio to persuade him to cooperate with the newly established government but he refused. Bonifacio established  a government separate from the newly extablished government. This is the reason why he and his men was considered and enemy of the state and sentenced to death. But Aguinaldo, might be considering Bonifacio’s honor and right as the founder of the KKK, commuted the death sentence to banishment. But others did not agree with him and insisted Bonifacio to be executed for the reason that he will be a cause of the disruption of the revolution. Because of those insistence, Aguinaldo withdrew his order. Bonifacio and his brother Procopio wa executed and buried in a grave dug using bayonets and few twigs was placed on it.

It was a sad fate and it touched my conscience for Andres was the Father of the Revolution and yet he was treated that way by people without a sense of honor. I’m wondering what would Rizal say about if if he is still alive during that time…

Sen. Antonio Trillanes, not allowed to join senate sessions?

Posted by: Jonathan Tabianan | August 16, 2007 | No Comment |

Senator Antonio Trillanes, voted by 11,189,467 [COMELEC] Filipinos to be our senator but not being allowed by the Makati court to join senate sessions? In my own opinion, it is unfair and unjust simply because millions of Filipinos voted him and COMELEC made it solid and legitimate by declaring him a new senator or the Republic of the Philippines.

Others and Makati court might be saying that he is a convicted rebel, therefore, he should not be allowed to join senate sessions. My question would be, “Why was he allowed to run for senatorial post if they will not allow him to join senate sessions new that he won?” This could only mean two things, that there must be a serious conflict in the law or someone or something must be doing extrajudicial workings.

I might not have a strong knowledge in the law but common sense tells me this isn’t right. I know millions of fellow Filipinos who voted him think and feel the same. We don’t want our vote to go in vain aren’t we? No hard feelings to the Makati court, I’m just supporting my vote.

New Begining

Posted by: Jonathan Tabianan | July 30, 2007 | No Comment |

National election was done. New set of leaders that will govern our country has done taken their oaths. Time for our country to go on for a better future. The question is “Will these leaders govern our country unitedly or they would just sit there and throw accusations and expositions of each other’s hidden agenda again, just like the past leaders we voted?”

Remembering Hello Garci Scandal, the Jose Velarde Account, Jueteng Payola, Fertilizer Scam, etc. somehow reminds me of famous telenovelas Filipinos love to watch. Makes me wonder whether Filipinos are really taking the issues seriously or just being entertained with it. It is hard to think that these leaders we voted to be our role models are also the one we will be laughing about in the future.

Some politicians say Filipinos of today are more intelligent voters and learned a lot already from past experiences. In addition, some say Filipinos think about not only for their own interest but for the general welfare. Well, our current situation speaks the truth than those politicians who are just trying to fish out more votes by saying flowery words to the public. Learning from experience is the most effective teacher and hopefully, this time, we’ll show to the world that we’ve learned already and looking forward for a better future.

Lupang Hinirang (The Philippine National Anthem)*

Posted by: Jonathan Tabianan | July 15, 2007 | No Comment |

I know a lot of Filipinos don’t really know the exact lyrics of our National Anthem, so I decided to put it here so when you have a chance to browse in the internet, you might accidentally my blog. I trust this lyric is accurate because I took it from a very reliable source. I hope it will enlighten some of us, Filipinos, at least. Here it goes…

Bayang magiliw,

Perlas ng silanganan,

Alab ng puso,

sa dibdib mo’y buhay,

Lupang hinirang,

duyan ka ng magiting

Sa manlulupig, di ka pasisiil

Sa dagat at bundok, sa simoy

at sa langit mong bughaw,

May dilag ang tula at awit mo’y

paglayang minamahal

Ang kislap ng watawat mo’y

tagumpay na nagniningning,

Ang bituin at araw niya’y kailan

pa ma’y di magdidilim.

Lupa ng araw ng luwalhati’t

pagsinta

Buhay ay langit sa piling mo.

Aming ligaya na pag may

mang-aapi

Ang mamatay nang dahil sa iyo.
Composed by Julian Felipe upon the request of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo for the declaration of independence on June 12, 1898 at Cavite el Viejo (Kawit). The anthem would be played together with the hoisting of the Philippine National Flag, made in Hong Kong by Mrs. Marcele Agoncillo, assisted by Lorenza Agoncillo and Delfina Herboza. The original title of Lupang Hinirang was Marcha Filipina Magdalo and later changed by Julian to Marcha Nacional Filipina. The band the played the anthem wa the San Francisco de Malabon band.**

Tatsulok by Bamboo

Posted by: Jonathan Tabianan | May 27, 2007 | No Comment |

This song inspires me a lot and I’m proud and happy to know that Bamboo has been transforming into a band that they are now… Tatsulok (Triangle) symbolizes the masses and the few elites, the rich classes of people in our country, wherein the masses are on the bottom while the few rich classes are on top when it comes to justice and influence to drive the fate of our country. This is really a sad and frustrating situation that needs to be changed, to be reversed, not the triangle but the “rights” in justice and “voices”…

New World

Posted by: Jonathan Tabianan | May 11, 2007 | No Comment |

Corruption is present everywhere, in all sector of our commumity. In all aspect of our everyday life. In government sector, business sector, education sector, even in religious sector.

Government sector; Some just sigh in frustration and hopelesness; Some express and voice out their grievances and wants but ended up losers. Eventually surrender their cause and go to the mountains where they think they can find solution but ended up being labelled as Enemies of the State or classified as terrorists; Some left their principles and fall down to the class of the corrupts and stare with their former fellows in pitty.

Many just divert the issue to things that are very much far and somehow tell you “Go with the flow!”. A flow that ends in a very high fall that will ensure your death. The eventual death of your dignity and soul…

You’re a walking dead once you succumb to the tempting power of corruption.

Time will come then the dividing wall between the corrupts and those who remain holding firmly to their dignity will be sealed. The side that do no good will naturally be annihilated in order to not to cause harm anymore and the latter will start a new breed of entities that will build a new world free from corruption.

“Corruption is the root of poverty…”
